Environmental Laboratory Internship

The Portland Water District is seeking a motivated student or recent graduate for an internship in our environmental laboratories. The position of Laboratory Intern is for 10 hours per week between the hours of 7AM and 4PM. There is flexibility within those times to accommodate classes or other work schedules. The duration of the internship is 3 months.  

The Laboratory Intern will support our team of 14 environmental professionals by cleaning and autoclaving glassware; preparing chemical reagents and microbiological media; calibrating laboratory equipment for analysis; entering data into laboratory databases; and maintaining accurate, neat, and precise records of these activities. The work is split between our water laboratory in Standish and our wastewater laboratory in Portland. 

The position pays $20.00 per hour for 10 hours per week. Coursework in chemistry, biology or environmental science, including lab work, is required. Training in our procedures and methods will be provided.
