Controls Engineering Intern - Portland Water District
The Portland Water District (PWD) is seeking internship candidates for a summer internship within our SCADA Services Department. The position has a rate of $19/hr and will run for 12 weeks during summer 2025.
PWD provides clean drinking water to over 200,000 people in 11 communities--and wastewater collection and treatment to 6 communities—in southern Maine. Join an organization focused on providing critical public health infrastructure and environmental protection in a safe and responsible way.
The PWD SCADA Services Department supports automation and data collection at all of PWDs facilities, including radio telemetry control and data collection at our remote sites. The dept. maintains PLCs, radios, SCADA servers and associated network equipment, and a robust on prem data collection and warehousing program.
Ideal Candidates will:
- Be enrolled in an engineering or engineering technology program in any engineering discipline for a 2- or 4-year degree.
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and through writing.
- Be able to work in an office environment and/or out in the field.
- Have experience analyzing technical data to make engineering decisions.
- Have experience with Windows OS and Office programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience or interest in any of the following technical areas is preferred:
- Control system wiring
- PLC Programing, especially with Allen Bradley Logix 5000 PLCs
- Complex spreadsheets & databases
- Python & SQL
- Data Visualization (i.e. PowerBi)
